Laser Hair Removal - F.A.Q.
How Does the Laser Work?
The Light Sheer Diode targets the melanin in the hair follicle of a growing hair which basically heats it up and destroys the follicle preventing further growth. As hair grows in cycles this usually takes 4–7 treatments, with most people losing over 90‰ of the hair within 5 treatments.
Does it Hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation similar to an elastic band snap, or even a needle insertion but is usually very well tolerated. Topical numbing creams are available for the more delicate areas if necessary. The Light Sheer has a built in cooling mechanism which cools the skin prior, parallel and post treatment. The ottawa laser clinic also offers an additional cooling device to ensure maximum comfort during the procedure.
How Long Do I Have to Wait Between Appointments?
This depends on the area being treated and your personal growth cycle. Generally between 5–8 weeks.
Is The Treatment Safe?
The technician invites you to do a patch test first before any actual treatment is performed. This ensures the correct parameters are chosen depending on your skin and hair type. The penetration of the laser is only 3–5 mm into the surface of the skin so is actually very superficial. The skin will be initially pink and a little bumpy but that usually fades away quite rapidly within a day or two. The Light Sheer Diode is F.D.A. approved and our professionals are certified laser technicians.
Which skin Types can be treated?
With the new "Light Sheer 400" at the ottawa laser clinic all skin types can now be treated safely as this machine has the capacity to treat dark skin as well as the very fair.
How Long are the Treatment Sessions?
This depends on both the density of the hair as well as the area of the body being treated. Typically an upper lip may only take a few minutes whereas a bikini maybe 30 mins. Obviously the legs with a larger surface area will take longer. This is all discussed in detail at the free consultation.

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion gently removes epidermal cells to treat a vast range of skin imperfections. It is especially effective for skin ageing. The powerful peeling action triggers the skin’s repair mechanism to produce healthy epidermal tissue growth, improving skin tone and elasticity.
What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a progressive, non-invasive treatment that gently removes epidermis cells to restore a youthful healthy glow.
How does the treatment work?
Real diamonds are high quality, precise, gentle abrasives combined with a suction that helps to slough off dead skin cells leaving a more youthful complexion. They are less irritating than the traditional crystals and are hypoallergenic.
Is it painful?
The treatment is performed with little discomfort. At the most, sensitive patients might experience a slight sensation resembling a light sunburn. After treatment, the skin will have a pink glow, and you can resume your normal activities almost immediately. The procedure can be done on a lunch hour.
Which skin problems can be treated?
This system gradually abrades the epidermal cells to treat a vast array of skin problems:

Is it Safe?
Microdermabrasion offers a gentler alternative to more traumatic resurfacing treatments. It does not involve trauma or bleeding. The treatment is executed slowly and progressively, removing only the superficial layers of the epidermis to reveal a youthful complexion and glow. Your therapist has total control and works under the strictest hygiene standards.
How long does it take?
Each treatment takes 30 minutes and when combined with other anti-ageing treatments may take between 45 mins to 1 hr.
How many treatments will I need?
Age and skin condition determine the number of treatments required to achieve optimum results. For most skin disorders a minimum of 6 treatments is recommended. Results can be seen in both texture and appearance of the skin after just one session. An initial series of treatments, combined with maintenance sessions, will result in better skin quality, and may postpone the first lifting treatments for some years.
Can microdermabrasion be used anywhere on the body?
There are virtually no areas of the body that would not benefit from this procedure.

Your treatment starts with a consultation from a friendly professional aesthetician, who will discuss your specific requirements. The 60 minute facial is a balancing and invigorating treatment which will help improve your skin's texture and tone. Balancing Skin Facial
Balancing the skin without stripping its natural moisture is very important. Oily skin produces excess sebum throughout the face, particularly through the T-zone, which can look shiny even after cleansing. Oily skin is common in teenagers but can appear at any age. It is important to avoid harsh products that strip the skin of oil, leaving the skin taut and dehydrated and encourage flakiness. They can cause a condition known as reactive seborrhea, where the oil glands work overtime to compensate for the loss of natural oils. Always use lukewarm water as it dissolves oil better than cold water.

Manuka Honey Layered Facial for oily and problem skin
This cleansing and healing facial uses the manuka honey which is a natural antioxidant and supplies cells with a wide range of vitamins, amino acids, and minerals as well as providing white blood cells the necessary glucose to destroy bacteria. This facial will deep cleanse, increase skin hydration, help repair damaged skin and improve skin elasticity.
It is highly cleansing and inclusion of active healing. Manuka honey has the ability to destroy a large number of bacteria especially Staphylococcus Aureus and Propiobacterium acnes, common causes of acne. Regular facials will help reduce blemishes without over-drying or aggravating the skin.
